Summer
of Discovery
Taproots School of the Arts
For children ages 7 through 12
June 16-27 and August 11-22, 2003
Have
you ever wondered
What it's like to be in a play?
If you would enjoy weaving?
How paper is made?
If you could produce your own bound book?
How to illustrate your own story?
At the Summer of Discovery at Taproots School of the Arts, you will
learn to write and print your own story, pull sheets of paper, illustrate
with drawings and linoleum prints, enclose it with hand-marbled paper,
and then bind it all by hand. Weaving and theater projects round out
our multi-arts immersion.
Two-week sessions, for no more than ten students per class, are under
the instruction of professional artist/educators in our well-equipped
studios.
At Taproots, a community of artists and craftspeople, we appreciate
that every student is an individual, on a unique developmental path.
Our mission is to help you express yourself through artistic tools
and skills. Along the way you will connect with likeminded peers and
practicing artists: Taproots teachers.
For over a decade young people have discovered their talents and found
joy in the arts at Taproots Summer of Discovery.
"Students ask questions, make mistakes and get
the opportunity to discover on their own what steps they can take to
solve them. These children have an opportunity through these classes
to breathe out, to display their knowledge in an innovative way, shape
it and make it their own."
-- H. L., Community Education Coordinator
St. Louis Public Schools
Taproots educators and students together create a summer art experience
you will be talking about for years.
Many of our students return year after year!
